MARUDI: Tedung Melancar 8 emerged champion in the boat paddling race for the Unity Cup in the Baram Regatta 2023 final yesterday, edging five other opponents in the category.
The team received winning cash prize of RM10,000.
Meanwhile, Benerang 4, triumphed in the second placing and took home cash prize of RM8,000.
Belalang 1 team, finished at third place and bagged RM6,000 in cash.
Three other teams in the fourth, fifth and sixth placings each received consolation prizes, namely Kampung Benawa (4th – RM4,000); Nagasaki Mulu (5th – RM3,000) and Irang Dih Madang (6th – RM2,000).
On hand to present all the prizes were Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala and Baram MP Anyie Ngau.
Also present was Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS)’s communication manager Benedict Jimbau.
