SERIAN: A 42-year-old rider died on the spot following a fatal collision along KM81, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman yesterday (Oct 4).

Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the accident involving a high-powered motorcycle and a pickup truck, happened at around 9.20 am.

Preliminary investigations found that the crash happened when the victim’s motorcycle had collided into a pickup truck driven by a 66-year-old man.

It was believed that the pickup truck had exited from a junction and was about to enter the P-turn area.

“As a result, the victim, who is a civil servant, sustained serious injuries to his head and hands.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Balai Ringin Health Clinic and his body was taken to Serian Hospital for an autopsy,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, a three-minute video clip from a vehicle’s dashcam footage had showed a pickup truck going against the traffic flow, which allegedly resulted in the collision.
