KUCHING: Rodger Chan Siong Boh has been elected as the new president of the Sarawak-Australia Business Chamber (SABC).
According to a SABC statement on Wednesday (Oct 4), his election took place during the annual meeting held on Sept 3.
“It is an honour to lead SABC. Sarawak and Australia have a long-standing relationship that dates back to World War II and the Colombo Plan.
“Via SABC, I aim to extend that relationship further by enhancing trade and strengthening links between Sarawak and Australia,” he said.
Following his election, Chan, in his capacity as the newly elected SABC president, attended the Borneo Business Roundtable forum organised by the Asean-Business Advisory Council (Asean-BAC) on Sept 5.
Notably, the establishment of the Borneo Economic Community (BEC) was formalised during the forum.
The BEC is set to include members from the business, government and community sectors in Kalimantan, Indonesia; Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Labuan.
SABC, via its president Chan, is a signatory and lead partner to the establishment of the BEC.
Chan also holds the position of vice-president of the Malaysia Zhangzhou Association, chairman of Digital Economy for both Associated Chinese Chambers Of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak, and Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
