KUCHING: A courtesy call was made with the aim of initiating a bond of friendship between Kuching city and Dongcheng District of Beijing.

The delegates led by deputy director of Dongcheng District Commission of Tourism Development of Beijing Municipality Chen Jian yesterday visited Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn.

During the courtesy visit both mayors and delegates shared the details of their own cities including cultures, tourism, development and others.

According to Chan, he welcomed the China delegates’ intention to have a bond of friendship city with Kuching as a lot of benefits would be gained in the future.

“We have many friendship cities with China but none with Beijing; therefore, this is a great opportunity from both sides as many things we can offer especially in terms of tourism and culture as well as the city’s management.

“We definitely have uniqueness in our city to offer to them, with diversity in our communities and our multi-religious backgrounds; we are able to stay united and this is the strongest part that we can portray to the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chen said that they also have many things to offer from the friendship city and was interested to know about Kuching City.

“Dongcheng is also rich in culture, consisting of 17 sub-districts and 182 residential communities; our district is also a key district for preserving the historical and cultural sites and an important window for showcasing the capital of our country.

“We also have the three World Culture Heritage Sites including the Imperial Palace, The Temple of Heaven and the Yule River section of the Grand Canal old watercourse.

“Many other things are also featured such as the high-end service sector, business services, public culture services and others,” she said.
