Man fined RM3,000 for threatening to burn mother’s property

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM3,000 in default three months in prison for threatening to burn his mother’s property if she did not buy a new motorcycle.

Suhaili Samsuddin, 32, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries up to seven years in jail or a fine or both, upon conviction.

He committed the offence in a house at Kampung Lintang, Jalan Hashim Jaafar, here at around 5.30 pm on Sept 15.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, Suhaili had threatened to burn ‘something’ if his mother did not buy a new motorcycle.

Fearing for her safety, the mother lodged a police report for further action.

The accused was arrested around 11.45 am on Sept 17 at a guardhouse in Muara Tabuan.

Investigation found that Suhaili had uttered threatening words to his 55-year-old mother to burn her things if she did not buy a motorcycle.
