KUCHING: A fault in the 11KV high voltage switchgear at the substation located in 3rd Mile caused an outage on yesterday (Oct 4).
Upon receiving a report at 2.42pm, Sarawak Energy’s operations and retail arm Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco) immediately dispatched its technical team to identify the faults and begin restoration efforts.
A statement received on today (Oct 5) said supply was restored to most areas via load transfer at 5pm on the same day.
The statement said subsequently, repair works on the faulty equipment were completed, and supply to all affected areas was fully restored at 9.32pm.
Sarawak Energy regional manager (Western Region) Nazry Abdul Latip expressed regret for the faults causing the outages and sought the public’s understanding on the matter as the team worked to swiftly normalise the system.
“As the damage was extensive, we needed time to repair the damage to normalise our system. Due to unsuitable site conditions, we were unable to deploy mobile genset to provide temporary supply.
“We want to assure the public that our technical teams are on 24/7 standby, committed to immediate action on any outage reports. Depending on the extent of the damage, we may require more time for full restoration,” said Nazry in a similar press statement.
Sarawak Energy is also actively investing in technology, backup power supply, and infrastructure enhancements to establish an advanced, efficient, and dependable power system.
