Man injured in machete attack, suspect nabbed

MUKAH: A man sustains a nearly severed right wrist and injuries to various parts of his body and head, suspected to have been attacked with a machete by an individual in the Matu District early Thursday morning.

Matu-Daro District police chief DSP Neil Beginda said they received a call at approximately 1 am from a concerned member of the public, reporting that a man was wielding a machete and causing a disturbance in a residential area in Matu.

“As soon as we received this information, a team of policemen rushed to the scene, and upon arrival, they found the victim covered in blood sitting on the stairs of a house with injuries to the forehead, back of the head, a nearly severed right wrist and left thumb,” he said.

The victim, he added, was transported to the Tian Clinic in Matu and subsequently referred to Sibu Hospital for further medical care.

“His condition is reported to be stable, and he is still receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital,” he added.

Following the incident, Neil reported that a 57-year-old man had been apprehended with a machete believed to have been used in the incident.

He added that the suspect is currently detained at the Daro Police Station lockup and is placed under remand until October 9 for further investigation. 

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
