Man fined RM1,500 for damaging wall of wife’s house

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to a fine of RM1,500 in default of three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court for treacherously damaging the wall of his wife’s house after he was not given money that he requested.

Muhamad Akbi Muhamad Akbar, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charges, he committed the offence in a house in Jalan Samariang Batu, at about 9.30 pm, last July 9.

If convicted, Muhamad Akbi can be sentenced to an imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than five years or a fine or both.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the 34-year-old complainant, a housewife, was visited by her husband at her residence in Jalan Samariang Batu.

The accused shouted the complainant’s name from outside the house to ask for some money before going on a rampage kicking the front door causing an asbestos type of wall to be damaged.

As a result of the incident, the complainant suffered a loss of RM30.

The complainant who was concerned for her safety lodged a police report for further action and investigation to be taken which led to the arrest of the accused on the same day.

In addition to that, the complainant and Muhamad Akbi do not live together and are in the process of getting a divorce.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented by a legal counsel.
