KUCHING: Who would have thought that Bali and the Maldives are only a 45-minute drive from the city centre?Â
The highly-anticipated Damai Lagoon Resort, previously known as Damai Puri Resort & Spa, opened its doors to guests on June 5, offering concepts from Bali and the Maldives, allowing guests to have a taste of international luxury locally.
Sales and marketing manager Suzie Ata told New Sarawak Tribune: “This preview is to introduce the resort to the public.
“It’s not fully open yet. We are still in the midst of preparing for our grand opening ceremony.”
The resort sits on the beautiful Damai Peninsula, with Mount Santubong about 2.2km away, home to local flora, fauna and exotic wildlife like orangutans and proboscis monkeys.
Damai Lagoon Resort is where luxury meets excitement, with many recreational activities, including ATV night rides, E-bikes, kayaking, stand-up paddling, and many more.
After a long day of activities, guests can visit the spa and wellness centre, Eden, to relax and enjoy the first oxygen bathtubs, known as oxygen hydrotherapy, in Sarawak.
For gym junkies, enjoy the vast array of equipment and even a specialised gym instructor at the resort’s gym called Flex. Additionally, scheduled aqua exercise classes are available as well.
Guests can choose from over 160 room units in the Serene and Luxe wings.
“We have 160 rooms at the resort, and all the rooms are high-end concept design. The rooms comprised Deluxe rooms, Suite rooms, Baruk rooms, and we have a Presidential Suite as well.”
Meanwhile, all food cravings can be satisfied at the five signature restaurants and bars, namely Horizon all-day dining, The Rasa fine dining, Crumbs Bakery, Bayu Bar, and Coconut Bar.
Ata added that all pastries and baked goods are made in-house by the resort’s chefs.
Additionally, the resort provides three meeting rooms and a ballroom for events, ceremonies and meetings – Talang, Satang, Bako meeting rooms, and Puteri ballroom.
The major refurbishment and upgrade of Damai Lagoon Resort aligns with the Sarawak government’s initiative to upgrade the state’s tourism products.
The state government has given the authority to the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to take charge of developing these tourism products.
SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain stated in a press conference in 2020 that this renovation was in line with one of the four priorities under the 12th Malaysia Plan, collaborating with the private sector and state government’s efforts.
Hemisphere, the wholly owned subsidiary of SEDC, is steering the wheel to grow SEDC’s Tourism and Hospitality Division as they manage Damai Lagoon Resort, Sarawak Cultural Village, and Damai Golf Country Club.
