KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has proposed to build a park named Guro City Park to solidify the city’s friendship and showcase a symbol of appreciation for the South Korean city’s unwavering support towards MBKS.
MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the visionary project is an initiative reciprocating the naming of Kuching South Street (Kuching South-Ro) in Guro City, signifying mutual respect and collaboration.
He said MBKS has also proposed further exploration of the park’s design after briefings with Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and representatives from Guro City.
Wee led a delegation of senior officers from MBKS on a courtesy visit to Mayor Moon Hun-il of Guro City Council, South Korea. The visit took place on Thursday (Oct 5) in Guro City, South Korea.
Following that, Wee underscored Kuching City’s dedication to becoming a model sustainable city, placing a strong emphasis on green initiatives.
“This approach seeks to strike a harmonious balance between urban development and environmental preservation.
“Collaboration with Guro City in these endeavors will promise a sustainable future for both regions,” Wee said in a press statement issued on Friday (Oct 6).
Wee said he and Mayor Moon Hun-il expressed their shared vision for sustained and frequent exchanges across various domains, encompassing culture, business, and youth engagement.
“The cultural exchange facilitated by this visit serves as a platform to showcase the rich and diverse culture of Sarawak to the people of South Korea.
“Beyond cultural promotion, it significantly deepens the bonds of friendship, encourages cultural exchanges, and boosts tourism ties between Kuching South and Guro City,” Wee added.
Both mayor’s mutual commitment to elevate the friendship between the two cities to unprecedented heights, fostering collaboration for the betterment of their communities.
This visit was marked by expressions of gratitude from Wee to Mayor Moon Hun-il for the warm invitation extended to him, his delegation, and the cultural performers from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Sarawak.
The invitation was a gesture of reciprocity following the visit and outstanding performance by the Guro City delegation during Kuching Festival 2023.
