10 engineering students first to enrol in CENTEXS green energy programme

KUCHING: Ten engineering students from the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) will become pioneers in enrolling in a programme related to green energy.

CENTEXS has become the first institution in Malaysia offering such programmes and courses.

CENTEXS chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussein said the green energy field is still new and attracting communities and leaders all around the world.

According to him, offering the course is seen as an opportunity for the students because it could give great benefits from their own perspective, including towards the environment and the development of the country.

“Based on what is emphasised by the state government, this students will create history for being among the first to enter the sectors.

“That being said, 10 students from Lundu, Lawas and others have taken up the challenge to explore Green Hydrogen, Green Storage and Vehicles alongside Smart Solar Photovoltaik (PV) system.

“Sarawak is the leader of green technology, which was approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and of course CENTEXS will play a role in contributing towards those efforts,” Syeed said on Friday (Oct 6).

He emphasised that this step is crucial as part of taking care of the environment, which is in line with environmental, social and corporate governance.

Syeed then explained that 20 per cent more is in the ESG role is to ensure the environmental sustainability through recycling, forest decarbonisation and others.

“Through this programme it could emphasise more on the importance, thus contributing towards the world decarbonisation.

“That is the biggest impact that we want to get from this effort, especially the earth,” he added.

Explaining further on the programme, Syeed welcomes anyone qualified to join the courses at CENTEXS Santubong for two months.

He ensures that previous graduates will be assisted in securing their career in their respective field.

“For this first group of graduates, they have been interviewed by several companies and will be offer a job in the nearest time.

“They will be place in all across the country such as Kuala Lumpur, Pulau Pinang and others, according to the need of their employers in sectors related to the things they have learn,” he added.

He also said that CENTEXS practices inclusion among the students without limiting the male or female category in order to enrol in the institution.

“As the matter of fact, 10 students from the first group joining this programme have and equal balance between male and female.

“We look at their ability based on their education criteria. Men or women, both will be picked should they have potential in their desired field,” he added.
