SIBU: A total of 24 students have been awarded financial aid to support their higher education pursuits through the Bukit Assek Student Financial Aid scheme so far this year.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, said that this scheme, organised by his service centre, distributes the aid in batches.

“Today (Oct 10), we’ve given aid to the fourth batch, benefiting nine students. The last batch will assist 10 more students, bringing the total beneficiaries to 34. Each student gets a one-time assistance of RM1,000,” Chieng said during the aid presentation at the Bukit Assek Service Centre today.

Chieng said this aid will lighten the load for families, helping them cover college or university expenses for their children.

He added that any student from his constituency meeting the criteria can get the aid, regardless of whether they study in Malaysia or abroad.

“This is the second year we’ve provided this aid. With living costs rising, it’s crucial to support our local students,” he said.

Furthermore, Chieng invites students to visit his service centre during holidays to build stronger community ties.

“I’m always here to offer assistance if they face any issues,” he added.
