KUCHING: The Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) is planning to develop Kuching High-Tech Park in phases, with an area of 1,825 acres in Kuching and Samarahan to meet the increasing demand from investors and attract more FDIs, especially to electronic and electrical sectors.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the project is expected to be fully completed by 2030, creating more business and employment opportunities for the locals.
He said the Sarawak government’s commitment to sustainable development has gained international attention, and this is supported by favourable ratings by global rating agencies such as Standard and Poor’s and Moody’s Investor Services that concur with Sarawak’s strategy to attract more quality investments to develop the state on a bigger scale.
“As our development strategy capitalises on data and innovation, Sarawak is on the right track to become a stronger region sustainably, incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles,” he said.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new factory in Sama Jaya High Tech Park here today, Abang Johari said robust policies and procedures have been laid out to ensure integrity, transparency, and good governance, which would improve the ease of doing business aligned with ESG principles.
As such, he said, there are ample opportunities across all sectors, especially the supply and value chains, beginning from the development of growth enablers to economic activities.
“I would like to urge our local entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to continuously upgrade their capabilities and capacities so as to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of the global markets.
“The government will continue to facilitate and nurture our SMEs.
“At the same time, the private sector (SMEs) as the engine of growth must be proactive and grab the opportunities made available from government and private sector initiatives,” he added.
