KUCHING: Sarawakians are optimistic that the RM5.8 billion set aside in the 2024 Budget will be fully utilised for the state’s development.

The Independent Council of Natives (ICON) founder Bill Jugah said that funds should be directed towards intended purposes, such as ongoing development projects.

“The RM330 million set aside for the indigenous people’s craft industries through the Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (TEKUN) should be distributed fairly. This will ensure that all groups feel they are being treated justly and reduce potential grievances,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Bill also highlighted the RM6.8 billion allocation for Technical, Vocational, Education, and Training (TVET).

“This allocation demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to training the next generation. It’s especially vital considering the increasing cost of living in Malaysia,” he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also the Minister of Finance, announced a total budget allocation of RM393.8 billion, with RM5.8 billion dedicated to Sarawak’s development.
