KUCHING: The St. Faith Kindergarten 2023 Family Fun Run witnessed a robust participation of around 500 individuals, who gathered at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Courtyard this morning (October 14).
The event served as a fundraising effort by the kindergarten aimed at generating funds for the maintenance and upgrading works for its church and kindergarten.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who flagged off the run earlier, commended the organisers for proactively sustaining the church while involving the community.
“From time to time, there will be a need for upgrading and maintenance works, so they are engaging in some sort of fundraising to cover the costs.
“This is part of our Sarawak culture, aside from the state government’s allocation through Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR),” he said.
He said this after flagging off the St. Faith Kindergarten 2023 Family Fun Run at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Courtyard here today (October 14).
Snowdan, who is also a member of the church, expressed hopes for other leaders to contribute back to their community in a similar way.
“Be it the churches or mosques; this is the culture of Sarawak,” he added.
The event earlier saw the participation from children as young as six years old and accompanying adults.
It featured a 3km as well as a 5km fun run, which were flagged off at 6.30 am and 6.40 am respectively.
Also present at the event were MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, St. Faith’s church Reverend Bradley Sangan, principal Aline Ong and Management Board chairman Andee Yeo; and event organiser Ryan Jee.
