KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) chief Wilfred Yap was recently informed by residents staying in Everbright Park, 3rd Mile, Penrissen Road about an illegal dump at the road side.
He was also told about the vandalism at the same site of a Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) signboard notifying the public of a fine of RM2,000 if caught for illegal dumping.
Following the information and request for assistance received, Yap together with Kapitan Cheong Ek Boh came over to inspect and to assess the situation to see what could be done to resolve the problem faced by the area’s residents. The matter had been brought to the attention of MPP.
However, instead of relying wholly on MPP for cleanliness, Yap hoped the residents of housing estates would be proactive on the cleanliness of their respective residential areas. They should do gotong-royong or mutual assist events with MPP to build a beautiful, clean and sustainable housing area.
Yap reminded the public on the awareness of illegally dumped rubbish could cost rate payers a lot of money each year in removal charges.
Instead of dumping rubbish illegally, anyone who needs to dispose bulk rubbish should contact Trienekens at 082- 612300 for their rates and charges.
Yap also encourages the public to play their role by assisting MPP through reporting or lodging a complaint if they see anyone illegally dumping rubbish by the roadside.
The public can report to MPP the offenders who dispose rubbish illegally by giving MPP information such as the registration number of the offender’s vehicle, location, date, time, description of rubbish and description of offender. A photo of the offender of illegal rubbish dumping taken from a hand phone will be very effective in identifying the offender.
