KUCHING: The police have arrested five suspects for engaging in reckless and dangerous motorcycle riding, performing ‘zig-zag’ stunts at Batu 17 Pasar Siburan last Friday (Oct 13).
The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department stated that the arrests were made between 10.30pm and 5am during the operation codenamed “Op Samseng Jalanan” along Kuching Serian Road.
“They were seen competing with each other, leaning their bodies, and performing dangerous ‘zig-zag’ manoeuvres, endangering themselves and other road users.
“The suspects were apprehended at Batu 17 Pasar Siburan, near the basketball court, and were taken to the Padawan Traffic Station for further action,” it said in a statement yesterday (Oct 14).
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987.
If found guilty, they could face a fine of RM5,000 and a maximum jail term of RM15,000 or five years’ imprisonment for reckless driving.
The department then urged parents and families to always monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from getting involved in such negative behaviours for their future.
