DEBAK: With the monsoon season approaching, the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (MCDF) here is on high alert for possible flash floods, especially during high tides.
Debak District MCDF Officer Lieutenant Nur Fikry Usop said that several villages face the threat of flash floods every year. Despite the government’s efforts in introducing flood control measures and better drainage systems, the MCDF continues to stay prepared.
“Disasters can be unpredictable. We hope our volunteers are ready to act, work as a team, and know the right steps to take when needed,” he said this while officiating at the Civil Defense Force’s Basic Volunteer Course at the KEMAS Community Activity Centre today.
The two-day course was attended by 43 volunteers. They were trained in essential skills such as marching drills, an overview of MCDF, first aid, handling wounds and fractures, respiratory aid, dealing with choking incidents, and mastering knots and ties.
“Helping others in tough times is a noble deed, but one must always be careful since it can involve risk,” he said.
Associate Captain Abang Suhaimi Abang Mohamad was also present.
