SIMANGGANG: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Sri Aman conducted a raid on an illegal storage facility holding 36,500 litres of subsidised diesel under Operation Tiris last Monday.
Deputy Chief Enforcement Officer Dorcas Sidi, stated that they also seized a tanker truck, two Prime Mover lorries, 36 storage tanks with a capacity of 1,000 litres each, a motor pump, and connecting pipes.
Two local men, aged between their 30s and 50s, were also arrested on suspicious of being the owner of the lorries and the owner of the diesel respectively, to assist in the investigation.
“In the raid, we found 36,500 litres of diesel and various equipment used for oil misappropriation activities.
“The total estimated value of the seizure is RM330,875,” she said in a statement today.
She explained that the illegal storage facility, used for storing subsidised diesel, was located in a remote area and was uncovered as a result of investigations and surveillance by enforcement teams over the past few weeks.
Furthermore, based on the surveillance information, the syndicate was said to be using two Prime Mover lorries to purchase subsidised diesel from nearby gas stations in Sri Aman.
“Subsequently, this diesel was then transported to the illegal storage facility to be placed in storage tanks.
“Only after that, it was transferred to another tanker truck and resold to third parties,” she explained.
She added that an investigation paper had been opened under the Supply Control Act 1961 (Act 122) to conduct an investigation and identify individuals or companies involved in these activities, as well as the diesel distribution network.
