BATU NIAH: Two Indonesian workers were found dead following an early morning fire at an oil palm plantation workers’ barracks in Kampung Telong, Jalan Pesisir Miri-Bintulu today (Oct 19).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victims were identified as 30-year-old Jaya and 35-year-old Hery.

The incident happened around 5.50 am and firemen from Batu Niah station were deployed to the scene to perform the extinguishing deed.

On arrival, they confirmed that the fire involved a container cabin, which was 20 per cent destroyed.

The team also found two men dead inside the said cabin.

Following that, their remains were retrieved and handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

The flames were completely extinguished at 6.40 am.

The exact cause of the fire and losses incurred are yet to be ascertained.
