MUKAH: Approximately 40 members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) from the Mukah and Dalat districts participated in training to prepare for the upcoming Northeast Monsoon (MTL) here yesterday.
Captain (PA) Zuriza Sharkawi, the chief of the Mukah APM District, stated that the training involved four modules: boat handling, equipment operation, communication equipment operation, and the management of Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS).
“The training, conducted in this operational centre, will begin with the use of boats, simulating the transport of flood victims to PPS, using communication devices to communicate between members, and the operation of equipment.
“This is because, during every flood disaster, there is a possibility of storms and fallen trees that need to be cleared.
“Therefore, today, all the equipment involved will be used to ensure that the upcoming MTL season in November runs smoothly, and the equipment can be fully utilised,” Zuriza told the media.
In this regard, the management of PPS is to depict the actual situation in the event of flooding, causing village residents to relocate to PPS.
“This year, we are conducting such training because the expectation of floods in the western part of Sarawak is quite concerning compared to last year.
“For this reason, APM Sarawak is taking an approach to conduct readiness training for its members so that they are prepared in case PPS needs to be opened.”
At the same time, Zuriza emphasised that all members have their own tasks during this training, and they need to be aware of their respective duties.
Furthermore, this is to facilitate movement and operations during the upcoming MTL.
