KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has given an assurance that Sibu will have a racing circuit to cater to motorsports enthusiasts.

“For Sibu, what is happening now is that we want to redevelop the area and we have a long-term plan called the Sibu Urban Renewal Development plan.

“Just two days ago, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sunway (Group Property Development) on the redevelopment of Sibu.

“So, once Sibu’s urban planning is completed, then we will build a racing circuit for the people in Sibu,” he said at a town hall session in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2023 programme held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Abang Johari was responding to a question from a youth on whether there are plans to build a racing circuit in Sibu as an effort to cater to motorsports enthusiasts as well as to prevent illegal street racing activities.

“In addition, locations are already identified in Kuching and Miri for the setting up of a racing circuit and it is hoped that this could provide a platform for motorsports lovers,” he added.
