KUCHING: The Kenyalang Interchange Flyover or commonly known as the BDC flyover is safe to use and not collapsing.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng clarified the matter after a video clip showing debris falling from the flyover had gone viral and a man was heard claiming that the bridge was cracking.

“We have clarified with the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak on the matter. There was a contractor clearing the debris.

“So, what actually happened is it (debris) dropped from the top to downwards during the clearing process.

“Thus, it has nothing to do with the safety concern, it is not collapsing,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted on yesterday (Oct 28).

Wee also said JKR Sarawak will address the matter with the contractor concerned.

“I urge the people not to create unnecessary tension. If there is any related issue, it is only right that we go to the right channel, such as contacting the relevant ministries or departments,” he said.
