MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has implemented strict measures to ensure adherence to parking coupon payments.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said in a full council meeting today that legal proceedings will be initiated against those vehicle owners who consistently neglect to pay their outstanding parking fines.
Those who are subject to these proceedings will bear all the associated legal costs, Yii said.
The move aims to compel vehicle owners to honour their responsibilities and clear their unpaid parking fines.
Moreover, to discourage delays and promote compliance, vehicle owners who receive a Letter of Demand (LOD) from the Council will not qualify for the 50 per cent discount usually offered on outstanding parking fines.
In a bid to facilitate the settlement of fines, the Council has introduced an amnesty programme called “Pay Your Parking Compound,” which provides 50 per cent discount to parking violators willing to settle their fines before the year’s end.
Vehicle owners can verify any outstanding parking fines by visiting the Miri City Council website, the Borneo Parking Systems Sdn Bhd website, or by utilising the “Borneo Park Miri” application.
