BINTULU: The construction of the new Naval Region 4 headquarters for the Royal Malaysian Navy in Samalaju promises to be a significant catalyst for regional development and economic growth.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg shared that he was informed about the matter in his meeting with Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on Thursday (Nov 2).
“Samalaju is an important area and the establishment of the Naval headquarters here will bring in a lot of ships.
“This, in turn, will result in a surge of employment opportunities, thereby fostering positive economic growth,” he said after attending a working visit to the site projects of Kampung Jelutong Housing Expansion Scheme and the Bintulu Integrated Administration Centre today (Nov 3).
Abang Johari, who is also the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) chairman, added that the government had plans to station a police brigade team in Samalaju, further reinforcing the area’s security.
“With a robust security presence, we can ensure safety and that will subsequently attract investments due to the perception of security,” he said.
Abang Johari emphasised that these plans were integral to the government’s master plan for Bintulu, aiming for greater progress in the future.
“Our strong economic performance underlines the world’s confidence in our economic policies,” he said.
