Trio fined RM2,500 each

KUCHING: Two brothers and their friend were each fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for deliberately damaging cable wires belonging to Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM).

Roy Davidson Midir, 26, Ismail Midir, 35, and Augustine Mindel, 39, each pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

They were charged under Section 431A of the Penal Code which was read together with Section 34 of the same code, for intentionally damaging cable wires in front of a souvenir shop  at Jalan Tabuan, at around 10.30 am on October 31.

Mason Jaro ordered all the accused to be jailed for six months if they failed to pay the fines.

Based on the facts of the case, the police were conducting patrols around the area when they spotted the three suspicious men cutting and carrying cable wires belonging to TM.

After approaching them and inspecting the two cars they used, police arrested all the accused.

During the arrest, their belongings such as hand saws, hammers, machetes, meat cleavers, TM cable wires, two road cones, life jackets and the two vehicles were confiscated.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the three men were not represented by legal counsels.
