KUCHING: A man was sentenced to a fine of RM2,000, in default four months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court for deliberately breaking the glass of a stall, causing a loss of RM100.

Gilbert Karun Ding Robert, 26, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan on Tuesday (Nov 7).

According to the charges, he committed the offence at a restaurant in Batu 7 at about 1am on Nov 2.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant and his five friends were outside the shop when several men came armed with wood, machete, and guandao.

The complainant and his friends ran into the shop, then one of the individuals involved swung a stick at the complainant who was trying to close the shop’s grille.

The group of men later left the scene.

Gilbert, however, returned to the premises and pushed the complainant’s stall over, causing the glass to break.
