SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) must play its role in ensuring Sarawak’s aspirations and dreams can be achieved, especially through contributions in the field of education and research.
In stating this, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that this is needed to build Sarawak’s foundation for a more glorious future.
According to him, the current and upcoming developments in the state require the active involvement of everyone, especially Unimas which has expertise in fields that are very relevant to the development of Sarawak.
“I am confident that Unimas has the potential to be the main catalyst in advancing the state’s economy and improving the well-being of the community in our beloved Bumi Kenyalang,” he said.
Uggah was officiating at the Second Session of Unimas’ 27th Convocation Ceremony here Tuesday (Nov 7).
“Moreover, I believe that Unimas has equipped its graduates with relevant knowledge and skills for today’s era.
“Therefore, I hope the graduates will use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the state.”
Uggah who is Pro-Chancellor took pride in the university’s achievements in teaching, research and continued commitment to the sustainability of the local community.
“The existence of Unimas in Bumi Kenyalang throughout these 30 years has also contributed by assisting the state government in implementing development in rural areas.
“I am very proud that Unimas emphasises the empowerment of communities in rural areas, through various strategic plans and also community-based projects that greatly benefit the local community,” he said.
