KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will be making an official visit to China to strengthen bilateral trade with China, particularly in palm oil.
China, he said, has been one of the biggest importers of Malaysia’s palm oil; thus the trade mission aimed to further increase the country’s export of the commodity.
“China is one of our largest importers of palm oil. Hence, one of the purposes of my visit there is to further increase our (palm oil) export there,” he said.
“As for this year, we expect a consistent increase in palm oil export to China,” he told reporters after opening the International Pepper Community’s (IPC) 51st annual session and meeting here on Tuesday (Nov 7).
Last year, Malaysia exported RM14.86 billion worth of palm oil and palm-based products to China.
In addition, he said, the official visit to China was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, especially when the two countries will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations next year.
