KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg attended the 2023 National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Council meeting at the Parliament Building on Tuesday (Nov 7). 

He was among the leaders who attended the meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The meeting was also attended by the respective Chief Ministers, Menteri-Menteri Besar and senior government officials.

Abang Johari when met said the meeting discussed the SDGs matters monitored by Malaysia and the United Nations (UN).

He said the meeting also touched on balanced economic development as well as poverty and renewable energy.

“The UN Commissioner did mention what Sarawak is doing from the point of view of renewable energy. 

“In this development, we take into account what has been mentioned by the UN regarding the sustainability programme,” he said. 

The SDGs are implemented in three phases according to the National Development Plan, starting with the 11th Malaysia Plan, 2016-2020 and currently being implemented in the 12th Malaysia Plan, 2021-2025 and will continue under the 13th Malaysia Plan, 2025-2030.

The reports on the country’s SDG progress are carried out every four years, in line with the UN’s recommendation that the report be presented periodically through the National Voluntary Review Report (VNR).

Meanwhile, Abang Johari is scheduled to attend the Sarawak – Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) Annual Strategic Dialogue 2023 at the Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Nov 8). 

He was also scheduled to receive a courtesy call from the President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Petronas, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz.
