KUCHING: Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah attended the 05/2023 Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) Supreme Committee Meeting chaired by secretary-general of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu in Kuala Lumpur, today.
One of the important decisions made in the meeting was to maintain the age limit for players between 14 and 45 years old in 2022, meaning those born on or after Jan 1, 1977, and before Dec 31, 2008.
The meeting also agreed that competitions would be held if there is participation from two states and a minimum of four athletes.
Sarawak will host the 21st Para SUKMA next year, from Sept 21 to 28.
The roadmap for Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 begins with the Para SUKMA Organisation Coordination Meeting. The Para SUKMA Sports Event Workshop takes place from yesterday (Nov 8) to Nov 20, 2023.
Contingent registration will begin from July 1 to 31, 2024. Contingent arrival in Sarawak is scheduled for Sept 21, 2024, and classification will be held on Sept 21-22, 2024.
Ten types of sports will be contested, including athletics, tenpin bowling, powerlifting, table tennis, archery, badminton, lawn bowls, swimming, boccia, and chess.
Among the sports events to be contested here are athletics at Sarawak Stadium, swimming at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, table tennis at Stadium Perpaduan, lawn bowls at the Petra Jaya Sports Arena, archery at the Petra Jaya Target Field, tenpin bowling at the Megalane E-Mart Batu Kawa, and chess at Hotel Raia.
In Kota Samarahan, powerlifting will be held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) campus, and boccia at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) compound, while badminton will be contested at the Indoor Stadium in Sibu.
