KUCHING: Sarawak is banking on foreign investors to make a beeline to the state now that the federal government has decided to return Bintulu Port to the state.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is optimistic given that Bintulu is equidistant from China and India.
“At the same time Bintulu is a spot within the Asian region and this means we will try to optimise our strength in our resource and upgrade it to a higher product which is green energy.
“And I think as the world is emphasising green energy maybe the investors will come to us just like ‘semut’ (ants) attracted to sugar, ” he said.
He was was speaking at a Diwali luncheon hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) councillor Shankar R.P Asnani here on Sunday.
Abang Johari said that Sarawak,which is strategically located between the two large countries, also plays an important role in the growing green energy industry in the Asian region.
“As the demand for clean methanol and green ammonia increases, Sarawak sees great potential to become a major producer of green fuel to support economic growth.
“We are in a strategic location in the middle of these two big countries and the whole Asian region. People are going for clean methanol and green ammonia. I believe we have a golden opportunity to be the centre of green energy production to fuel the state economy, ” he said.
