KUCHING: Firefighters encountered a locked gate and doors while responding to fire at a single-storey terrace house in Taman Matang yesterday morning (Nov 14).

The incident, which occurred at 9.30 am, forced firefighters to break into the house to start extinguishing the blaze.

No occupants were in the house at the time, thankfully avoiding any injuries or casualties. However, the fire rendered a family of seven homeless.

Firefighters open up the roof of the neighboring house to prevent further fire spread.

A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson reported that firefighters from Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations responded to the emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the house 80 per cent damaged and a car in the garage 40 per cent damaged.

Firefighters used water from a nearby hydrant to control the flames, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to an adjacent house. However, they had to open the roof of the neighbouring house as a precaution.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are currently under investigation.
