MIRI: Malaysian motorists using the digital road tax (e-LKM) and digital e- LMM (Motor Vehicle Licence) are not being barred from crossing the border into Brunei.
State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said he had discussed the matter with Brunei Consul General in Kuching, Noni Zurainah Ismi,on Tuesday.
“The Brunei Road Transport Ministry has received our letter and they have taken note of the implementation of the digital e-LKM and e-LMM,” he said here on Wednesday.
“As long as you provide complete documentation, such as printed digital road tax together with the e-arrival form to enter the border, it should not be a problem,” he assured.
“I was told by Noni that there have been no such cases (vehicles being turned away) so far.”
Lee stressed that a further comprehensive discussion on the digital road tax and digital licence will be carried out with Brunei soon.
He was clearing the air on public concerns over the implementation of e-LKM and e-LMM, especially among those (Malaysians) residing in Miri, Limbang and Lawas, who go across the border regularly.
Lee dismissed allegations reported by the Chinese press that there have been cases of Malaysian vehicles barred from crossing the Brunei border for having no physical road tax.
The digital LKM and e-LMM was launched by the federal Ministry of Transport in February 2023, to replace the physical road tax and driving Licence.
The digital road tax and driving licence are now accessible via the MyJPJ app as part of the digitalisation plans of the Road Transport Department (RTD).
“It is part of RTD’s initiative to digilatise all of its services by 2025,”said Sarawak RTD director, Norizan Jili.
According to Lee during this period of digitalisation, the physical road tax is still being issued by the RTD but motorists are encouraged to utilise the digital platform for their convenience.
He said vehicle owners can obtain digital copies of the two documents on the RTD’s portal or MyJPJ application, which maybe downloaded from the Apps Store, Play Store or Huawei App Gallery.
