SIBU:  Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew has urged the Federal Transport Ministry to get all airlines operating between Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak to increase their flights due to  increasing passenger demand.

Ling said  air ticket prices had skyrocketed because some airlines had reduced some flights.

“The price of a flight ticket is as high as RM999  and it is not during special holidays and festivals. This price is unacceptable to the people of Sarawak,” he said in a statement today (Nov 16).

Ling also said that as airline ticket prices were floating, it would be cheaper to buy the tickets earlier than later.

“Often, airlines will tell you to book tickets in advance, but when there are not enough flights, there will be problems with no tickets and expensive tickets. This is because demand exceeds supply,” he said.

Ling stressed that the issue of air tickets between East and West Malaysia was a priority  the unity government must deal with to ensure   the people of Sarawak and Sabah would not be marginalised.

“Solving the air ticket issue between the two places is also an effort to promote the integration of the people of the two places including promoting the economic development of the two places,” he said.
