KUCHING: A sum of RM640,000 has been channelled through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) to the Musa’adah Humanitarian Mission Emergency Fund.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the donations were allocated to aid the victims of various crises – the people of Palestine, earthquake victims in Morocco, and those affected by the floods in Libya.
“A total of RM520,000 will be given to the Palestinian people, RM60,000 to Morocco’s earthquake victims, and another RM60,000 to the Libyan flood victims.
“I hope the contribution will alleviate their hardships,” he said during the Islamic agencies appreciation night held at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall yesterday (Nov 16).
Dr Abdul Rahman said the Muslim community in Sarawak is ready to assist other fellow Muslims, irrespective of geographical or cultural differences.
On another note, he said mosques serve not only as places of worship but also as centres for holistic activities and services.
“The Regional Mosques Strategic and Smart Centre stresses the need to include regional strategies.
“Innovative platforms and advanced technology offer new avenues for managing and delivering services within mosques.
“Thus, I hope such an initiative can be carried out to strengthen the mosque’s pivotal role in providing activities and services for Sarawak’s Muslim community,” he added.
