KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced a local man to six months’ imprisonment for trespassing into an oil production factory area and stealing seven kilogrammes of cooking oil.
Muhammad Akmal Junaidi, 29, pleaded guilty to the charges under Section 448 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
According to the charges, he committed the offence in the area of a cooking oil production factory in Demak Laut Industrial Estate, at around 4.53 am last October 20.
Upon conviction, he could face an imprisonment term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.
According to the facts of the case, the financial senior manager, who is the complainant in the case, was informed by his employee that there were shortages in the items supposed to be delivered to a supermarket.
The missing items included two boxes of liquid soap and two boxes of cooking oil, weighing five and two kilogrammes, respectively.
The complainant then instructed the workers to check the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) recordings in the vicinity of the factory involved.
A check on the CCTV revealed that a part-time worker (the accused) had entered the factory area and stole the stored items from the truck.
A police report was filed for further action, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day at around 7.30 pm.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
