SERIAN: The Serian District Council (MDS) has taken proactive efforts to maintain cleanliness and functionality of public toilets.

Its chairman Lim Hock Meng said that the council is addressing issues related to the maintenance of these essential amenities by stressing the systematic approach to combat vandalism and improve public toilet management.

“These essential facilities, subject to monthly maintenance by appointed contractors, have encountered challenges, primarily stemming from acts of vandalism by members of the public. The council has responded decisively to such challenges by promptly repairing any damages reported,” Lim told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday (Nov 18).

He also highlighted the allocation of sufficient budgetary resources for maintaining these facilities in optimal condition for public use. Addressing accessibility, Lim revealed plans to implement a time schedule for public toilets to enhance their availability for residents.

Additionally, Lim discussed the council’s initiative to engage with local communities in managing and monitoring 16 public toilets under its jurisdiction.
