JAKARTA: A train crashed into a minibus in Lumajang regency of Indonesia’s East Java province on Sunday evening, leaving 11 people dead and three others injured, a rescuer said.
The accident occurred when a minibus was passing through a railway crossing which had no train-crossing barrier in Ranupakis village at 19.53 pm local time. Suddenly a train came and hit the minibus, said Muhammad Hariyadi, head of the provincial search and rescue office.
“As many as 11 people died in the accident, and three others suffered injuries,” he told Xinhua over the phone, adding that the local search and rescue office was helping out in the evacuation of victims.
An investigation was being carried out at the scene, according to police. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
