DUN sitting starts; four given leave of absence

KUCHING: The eight-day State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting began here at 9 am today with 78 of the 82 assemblymen attending.

Speaker Datuk Amar Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar granted leave of absence to four representatives.

The sitting began with a prayer recital at 9.05am in the DUN chambers.

This was followed by the swearing in and oath-taking ceremony for Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee.

Leave of absence was granted to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris for today’s sitting; Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (today until Nov 22); Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Harry Henry Jinep and Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau (today until Nov 24).

The DUN also observed a moment of silence to former Katibas assemblyman Datuk Seri Ambrose Blikau who passed away on Sept 9; former Jepak assemblyman and Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talip Zulpilip who passed away on Sept 15, and former Telang Usan assemblyman and senator Datuk Lihan Jok who passed away on Nov 16.

The sitting will see the tabling of the State Budget 2024, two new Bills and two amendment Bills.

The Supply Bill will be tabled by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg while the Sarawak Ombudsman Bill will be tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emission) Bill will be tabled by Deputy Minister in the Premier Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayed Aman Ghazali while the Distribution of Gas (Amendment) Bill and Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2023 will both be tabled by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
