KUCHING: Police have officially confirmed the safety of two schools in the city, dispelling any concerns related to bomb threats.
The affected institutions, namely SMK Kuching High and St Joseph’s Private School, were targeted by threatening emails, prompting swift action from the authorities.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said they had received two reports detailing bomb threats sent to the official emails of an international school and a national secondary school in the city.
“In response to the information, the police, in collaboration with the schools, promptly initiated the evacuation of students and staff from the premises.
“Security measures, including a meticulous search for the alleged bombs, were conducted by bomb squads from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) across the school premises.
“Fortunately, no threats were detected during the operation,” he said in a statement.
Subsequent investigations revealed the threatening email to be a hoax, with no evidence supporting the claimed existence of a bomb risk in the schools.
In a coordinated effort, the police, school management and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) have implemented enhanced security measures not only in the affected schools but also in other educational institutions.
Ahsmon cautioned the public against engaging in speculative discussions that could potentially cause public distress.
