KUCHING: The Lions Club of Kuching City raised RM19,000 during a fundraising and charity movie screening of the animated Walt Disney film, ‘Wish’ at TGV Cinema, Vivacity Megamall here last night (Nov 23).
The funds raised will go towards the club’s upcoming service projects.
Organising chairperson Irene Tan, who is a past president of the Lions Club, thanked generous sponsors who assisted in providing 125 seats to children from the Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Care Centre and Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sarawak (PERYATIM).
Additionally, the children were given free popcorn and drinks.
With five main areas of service — vision, diabetes, hunger, environmental, and childhood cancer — various service projects were planned, including a health screening project next month at SK Pesang Begu, Serian for approximately 200 villagers around the area.
A portion of the funds will be allocated to purchase milk powder for adults and diapers for two bedridden disabled individuals.
The funds would also go towards hosting the annual Christmas lunch party for those with various disabilities.
Looking ahead to Chinese New Year, the club also aims to conduct a community service project supporting 10 to 12 poor families.
The Lions Club of Kuching City continues to uphold the Lions Club International motto of ‘We Serve’, exemplifying selfless service to those in need within local communities.
The club extends its heartfelt appreciation to fellow Lions, Leos, friends, and members of the public who have generously supported the fundraising event.
