14-year-old among 212 arrested in ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ drug op

KUCHING: Narcotics police have arrested a total of 212 individuals across the state in the fifth series of an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’.

The operation, conducted by the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) from Nov 20 to 22, also resulted in the seizure of 6.29kg of various drugs with an estimated value of RM235,968.08.

The seized drugs included 5.89kg of syabu, 275.98g of Ecstasy powder, 100.25g of marijuana, 2.63g of ketamine, and 102 Erimin 5 pills – a quantity sufficient to cater to 30,721 users.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, in a press conference held at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Friday (Nov 24), revealed that the suspects, ranging in age from 14 to 59, were arrested for various offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.

“Of the figure, 19 are drug dealers, 123 addicts, 20 wanted persons, and 50 individuals were arrested for various offences.

“Four suspects will be investigated under Section 39B of DDA 1952; 15 are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of DDA 1952; 123 under Section 15 (1)(a) of DDA 1952; 45 under Section 12(2) of DDA 1952; five under Section 39C of DDA 1962; and 20 under wanted persons.”

The arrests were the result of raids conducted at drug ports, housing areas, private farms, fishermen jetties, and various places associated with drug abuse activities.

Additionally, actions were taken under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1998, leading to the confiscation of cash amounting to RM3,360, a Rolex watch worth RM40,000, a Toyota Vios worth RM50,000, and a Perodua Myvi worth RM30,000.

Meanwhile, Comm Mancha shared that from Jan 1 to Oct 31, the Sarawak NCID had arrested 9,198 individuals, seized various drugs worth RM137,492,969.21, and confiscated properties worth RM5,076,300.96.

Present at the conference were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus, Sarawak CID chief SAC Wong Ing Fung, and Sarawak NCID deputy chief Supt Gabriel Risut.
