DALAT: A total of 824 hectares of land has been approved by the state government to develop an Agro Park, especially for pineapple cultivation here next year.
Women, Children and Community Well-being Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said, it is one of the measures to increase household income.
“The Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) has identified an area to be turned into an Agro Park close to Kampung Sungai Kut Dalat.
“A sum of RM200,000 has been approved for preliminary work on this project,” she said at the opening of the Pineapple Plant Technology Course @ Dalat at the Dalat Welfare Complex, here, today.
The objective of the Agro Park development is to support efforts to increase agricultural yields to meet domestic and export demand, she said.
“In addition, to help smallholders and supporting the industry by providing a consistent supply of raw materials.
“Also, to reduce food imports,” she said.
Fatimah, who is Dalat assemblywoman, said in addition, proposed components for the project also involve agriculture, agrotourism, infrastructure and facilities.
On the course, she said, it will be conducted over two days and involves 78 participants.
This course is jointly organised by the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Seberkas) Dalat.
MPIB State Director Mohammad Suffian Sahmat and Saberkas Dalat Chairman Datuk Dr Maliki Mahili were also present.
