‘Karate Kid’ casting call recieves over 10K submissions

SONY Pictures has been getting a lot of attention from aspiring karate kids everywhere, following news that another instalment of the “Karate Kid” franchise will be made soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has now received more than 10,000 submissions since they started casting call to find the next Karate Kid, with entries coming from around the globe, including Singapore, India, and even South Africa.

Back on November 21, actors Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan appeared on YouTube to reveal that they were working together in the upcoming new movie, and that they were looking for a new young actor to play the titular role.

Ralph is best known as Daniel LaRusso, the original Karate Kid from the 1980s movies, while Chan starred in the 2010 remake, playing a man called Mr Han who helped the new kid Dre (Jaden Smith) to become a good fighter.

According to the website for the casting call, the team is looking for someone to portray a Chinese or mixed-race Chinese in the age range of 15-17 years old.

Filming is expected to begin in March next year.
