MIRI: Several roads in the city centre will be closed to traffic to facilitate the Christmas parade this Saturday (Dec 2).
In a statement, Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the affected roads are Jalan Kipas/Bulatan Kipas; Merpati Road junction; Jalan Persekutuan/Jalan Sylvia; Jalan Post/Jalan Sylvia; and Ambank traffic light. These roads will be closed starting from 4.30pm.
Additionally, some roads will be diverted from 4.30pm, including Jalan Merdu (diverted to Jalan Bintang Jaya 5); Jalan Sylvia’s traffic light (diverted to Jalan Brooke); Jalan Brooke’s traffic light (redirected to Jalan Kingsway); Jalan Kingsway’s traffic light (diverted to Jalan Padang); Jalan Melayu/Jalan Kingsway (diverted to Jalan Cina); Bulatan Kenyalang to Jalan Bendahara and Jalan High Street; Jalan Nakhoda Gampar’s traffic light (diverted to Jalan Permaisuri); and Jalan Merbau’s traffic light (Mega Hotel) redirected to Jalan Masjid.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to attend the parade.
For those planning to attend, they are advised to park their vehicles at car parks adjacent to SK Bintang, Miri Indoor Stadium, and Miri Stadium parking lots.
