MUKAH: A teenage boy and his mother succumbed to their injuries after they were involved in an accident along KM65, Jalan Mukah-Selangau last Tuesday.
The first victim identified as Elvin Frederick Richelle Baya, 15, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at 2.28 pm at Simpang Bukut health clinic.
Meanwhile, the second victim identified as Sima Galih, 39, was also pronounced dead while receiving treatment at 11.29 pm at Sibu Hospital.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the accident, which happened at around 1.30 pm, involved a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and an excavator.
The SUV with a family of five onboard, had skidded out of control and crashed into an excavator by the roadside.
As a result, the family of five, who sustained severe and minor injuries, were rushed to Simpang Bukut health clinic for further treatment.
The 40-year-old SUV driver and his two children – 13-year-old daughter and five-year-old son, only suffered minor injuries and are reported safe after receiving treatment.
On the other hand, the excavator operator was unharmed in the accident.
