KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasized the significance of good governance and racial unity in the country. He stated that these factors can bring about positive changes in social, economic, and political aspects.
“In the context of a country, the government should prioritize the interests of the people above party politics,” he said.
He made these remarks in an interview published in the special edition of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka’s magazine, Dewan Masyarakat. Abang Johari was asked about the relationship between the federal and state governments.
The chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) then affirmed that there are strong ties between the Sarawak and federal governments.
“Despite changes in Prime Ministers, the state government remains committed to addressing the cost of living for the people, in line with the advice from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after the last election.
“For this reason, we need a strong team, either in the state government or the federal government. This is crucial for fostering peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
Regarding efforts to unite Malaysia’s diverse population under the Malaysia Madani government, Abang Johari stated that all policies and their implementation must be carried out with a humane approach.
“As citizens, we need to embrace simplicity and strive for a balanced life. In my view, the Madani spirit reflects the values that form the basis of our lives, enabling us to foster collaborative spirits regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity,” he added.
Therefore, he believes that racial harmony is essential for Malaysia to continue achieving success.
“Remember, the spirit of unity among various races is a foundational pillar that Malaysia needs to continuously strengthen.
“Despite leadership changes, the policy remains the same, which is to advance the country’s progress and benefit the people in the future,” said Abang Johari.
