KUCHING: A Vietnamese woman was fined RM2,000 in default of three months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court for engaging in sex services at a hotel in Jalan Setia Raja here last Sunday.

Le Nguyen Thi Thu Tuy, 43, from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

Upon conviction, she could be sentenced to an imprisonment of up to one year and liable to a fine or both.

She committed the offence at a budget hotel in Tabuan Stutong at around 3.30 pm on November 26.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, a raid by Op Noda, conducted by a police team at a hotel, the accused was suspected of conducting prostitution activities at the premises.

The raid successfully apprehended the accused along with confiscated items used for prostitution activities, such as three condoms and three cash notes amounting to RM150.

The investigation found that the accused was engaging in prostitution activities in a room and there was negotiation between the accused and undercover officers with a payment rate of RM150.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
