KUCHING: The Sarawak government has announced plans to construct a new road leading to Telaga Air.
This development, as revealed by the Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, aims to facilitate easier visitor access and stimulate local socio-economic growth.
During the Telaga Air Regatta Festival 2023’s opening ceremony recently, Dr. Junaidi, who also the Pantai Damai assemblyman said the proposed 4.6-kilometre road will extend from the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Highway (FAC Highway) to Tebingan Sungai Telaga Air.
“This road is part of our strategic plan to ensure easier access to Telaga Air in the future,” Dr. Junaidi said.
Highlighting the broader impact of this infrastructure project, Dr. Junaidi pointed out its potential to elevate Telaga Air as a key tourist destination.
“The uniqueness present in this area… has the potential to be elevated as a tourism destination in the future,” he said.
The government’s vision for Telaga Air extends beyond road construction. Dr. Junaidi disclosed ongoing plans to develop Sarawak’s longest riverbank at Telaga Air, spanning 2.25 km, and the building of a new mosque for the local village.
Dr. Junaidi also touched on the significance of the Telaga Air Regatta Festival 2023 in promoting the area.
“The events like this can expose foreign or domestic visitors to this area, thereby highlighting the uniqueness of this location among tourists,” he said.
